Tips to Improve Computer Speed

Here are some tweaks and tips to improve the performance of your computer.

  1. Let your computer boot up completely before opening any applications.
  2. Refresh the desktop after closing any application. It will help to remove any unused files from the RAM.
  3. Do not use very large file size images as desktop wallpaper. If your PC is low on RAM (less than 128 MB), don’t keep desktop wallpaper at all.
  4. Do not mess your Desktop with too many shortcuts. Each shortcut on the desktop consumes RAM which slows down the processes.
  5. Empty the recycle bin on a regular basis. The files are not actually deleted from your hard drive until you empty the recycle bin. Moreover, delete the temporary internet files regularly.
  6. Scan your computer with an antivirus once in a week. It will protect from virus and spyware.
  7. Defragment hard drive once in a month. This will create a lot of free space on your hard drive and rearrange the files so that applications run faster.
  8. Make two (or more) partitions in your hard drive. Always use second partition to install large software tools. Windows uses all the unfilled space in C drive as virtual memory when Computer RAM is full. Keep the C Drive as empty as possible.
  9. Disable the option of tray icon while installing new software. The tray icons more RAM, and also slow down the booting of your PC. Also disable the option of starting the program automatically when the PC boots. These options can be disabled later on from the Tools or preferences menu in your application.
  10. Protect your PC from dust. Dust causes the CPU cooling fan to jam and slow down thereby gradually heating your CPU and affecting the processing speed.
